This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role where you’ll combine deep technical expertise with people leadership, influencing key stakeholders across legal, risk, and business teams.
Mo te tūranga | About the Role:
As Senior Manager – Complex Risk Data, you’ll lead the execution, methodology and quality of complex data work that underpins ASB’s most significant risk matters and investigations. You’ll provide technical leadership to teams of analysts, drive consistency and rigour in data approaches, and ensure insights are clear, accurate and decision‑ready.
You’ll also play a key role in building future capability — improving tools, data schemas and ways of working to enable faster, smarter responses to emerging risk and regulatory needs, including opportunities across big data and AI.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key Responsibilities
Leading the execution and methodology of critical data work for complex risk matters and investigations
Providing technical leadership and coaching to analysts working across multiple squads
Driving consistency, accuracy and quality across data queries, investigations and outputs
Ensuring timely delivery of concise, high‑quality insights to steering committees and working groups
Maintaining and improving Standard Operating Procedures to support data quality and availability
Partnering closely with Legal, Risk, and business SMEs to understand requirements and test hypotheses through data
Liaising with external legal firms and consultancies on highly complex data tasks
Identifying and implementing continuous improvements across data discovery, validation and QA processes
Planning and escalating workforce and capability needs within your area of accountability
Promoting a strong learning culture aligned to ASB’s PACE mindsets

A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics or a related field
5+ years’ relevant experience in data, with strong exposure to banking products, processes and regulatory environments
Proven technical expertise with a hands‑on approach to complex data problem‑solving
Strong understanding of New Zealand’s regulatory landscape
Demonstrated people leadership experience, including developing and supporting high‑performing teams
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical, legal or financial concepts for diverse audiences
High resilience, strong execution capability, and comfort operating in ambiguous, high‑pressure environments
Experience working in regulated industries and managing sensitive information
