The opportunity:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Software Engineer to take responsibility drive the design, development, and ongoing improvement of our applications that enhance the gym member experience. This role requires strong expertise in React Native and work planning, with the ability to contribute across the entire system. The position focuses on improving engineering practices in line with Continuous Delivery principles, and plays a key role in ensuring high-quality, maintainable code and efficient delivery of mobile solutions.
Your goal in this role is to deliver high quality and maintainable software, while helping the team adopt Continuous Delivery principles. This role will be focused on our iOS/Android mobile apps which have been implemented in React Native.
The role is hybrid, with a mix of three days per week in our South Brisbane support office and the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder.
Key duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Collaborating with product owners and department heads to understand requirements and independently design and drive solutions from concept to production.
Frequently shipping releasable code, in small, safe increments (i.e. multiple times per day).
Stepping outside your comfort zone, quickly adapting to new technologies and problems.
Proactively identifying and addressing blockers, before they become issues.
Producing code of excellent quality, that is simple to understand, change, test, re-use.
Producing code that is always in a releasable state.
Taking a scientific and incremental approach to software engineering, including but not limited to identifying and reducing technical-debt, and continuously improving architecture and practices.
Driving testing and quality approaches, setting a strong example for others in the team.
To be successful in this role you have:
Essential
Proven experience delivering value through production features in React Native mobile apps (iOS / Android)
Continuous Delivery - incrementally improving architecture while delivering business value (features)
Working with and improving legacy codebases in small increments
Implementing and improving common test frameworks and approaches used with TypeScript / JavaScript and React Native apps
In-depth knowledge of scalable design patterns - DDD, CQRS, Event Sourcing, MVC, messaging, microservices - when they are applicable, when they are not, and pitfalls / caveats to applying them
In-depth knowledge of testing patterns - unit testing, integration testing, acceptance testing, TDD, BDD, etc.
Experience with automated deployments - including staging environments, appropriate testing, versioning, secrets, and release management
In-depth knowledge of security and identity - including OWASP and OAuth, role-based access control
Desirable
Languages and platforms: C#, Azure, Auth0, GitHub Actions, Firebase, Salesforce, GrowthBook
