Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Handles the month end close process including preparation and posting of monthly and quarterly journal entries including but not limited to accrual, amortizations, bank transactions, depreciation, etc.
Prepares the monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and analysis including but not limited to bank reconciliations, fixed assets and various asset and liability accounts.
Maintains the school’s revenue calculation worksheet and calculates the revenue and unearned tuition in compliance with GAAP/ ASC 606 revenue recognition.
Maintains the calculation of the school’s lease accounting in compliance with ASC 842.
Performs monthly variance analysis on both the balance sheet and income statement accounts, compare results to historical trends/budget and document flux explanations.
Maintains and processes student billing charges and adjustments in the general ledger.
Reconciles the AR subledger to GL monthly and resolves discrepancies in a timely manner.
Prepares the monthly retakes calculation schedules, process student billing/invoicing in the system and coordinates with the Business Office and Registrar as needed.
Assists with the quarterly and yearly financial audits including providing supporting documentation as requested.
Assists with the annual budget exercise as needed.
Adhere to the company’s policies and procedures and ensures that internal controls are in place throughout the accounting close process.
Assists with the development and update of critical accounting tasks and controls procedures (SOP’s) and ensures that current practices are consistent and in line with these policies.
Identify and implement process improvement opportunities, system automation initiatives, and best practices for the accounting functions.
Works cross functionally with departments throughout the company and provides assistance and coverage as needed.
Perform ad hoc and special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
Detail oriented with high level of accuracy, has good critical thinking skills, and can demonstrate good personal judgment
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
Commitment to integrity, compliance, and confidentiality
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work under pressure while prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
Open, adaptable and collaborator especially in assuming new responsibilities and managing unfamiliar tasks
Initiative taker and can work both independently and in a team setup
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field
5+ years of general accounting experience
Strong working knowledge of full cycle month-end close process
Solid working knowledge of GAAP, accounting journal entries, account reconciliation, and internal controls
Experience with various ERP systems, strong computer skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables - advanced or intermediate)
May require travel to various campus locations
