ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Audit, Safety and Risk team sits within the Governance and Risk Directorate and is responsible for providing a wide range of internal services to the organisation focused on risk, insurance, audit and work health and safety.
The recipients of the 2026 Safework NSW – Work Health and Safety Excellence Showcase award for Champions in Large Business (Government) category, the team are concentrating on driving a collaborative approach to educating staff on safety matters that impact their day to day life. In addition, we are also ensuring Council’s internal audit plan targets our high risks areas and complies with relevant laws, standards and legislation, and making improvements across our claims process.
In contributing to the overarching vision, the Senior WHS Advisor is responsible for creating a positive work, health and safety culture throughout Council, and in particular the highest risk area of Council being the City Services Directorate. This role may be required to work across multiple Council sites across the Local Government Area.
The successful applicant will require:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in the areas of WHS and demonstrated extensive industry experience
Relevant qualifications in the areas of WHSMS auditing and/or demonstrated extensive industry experience
Strong WHS expertise and experience in the areas of Plant, Fleet, Machinery and SWMS relating to these functions
Proven demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, review and analysis of WHSMS, programs and its application to business and process
Demonstrated experience in delivering WHS training across organisations
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills including management, committee and Council reports as well as the ability to influence and guide others in a constructive manner
Experience in project coordination, statistical data analysis, review and improve operational processes as well as reporting of Information to key stakeholders within the organisation
Strong planning and prioritisation skills to plan and organise work as well as the ability to develop and deliver practical solutions across the organisation
Sound knowledge of and the capacity to implement EEO, WHS, ethical work practices and cultural diversity principles
Computer literacy proficient in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint
Class C drivers licence.
