Job Description
Reporting to the Wellington Regional Manager, the Service Manager is responsible for the recruitment, practice and management of support workers, and for forming great relationships with disabled people and whānau so we can best suit their needs. They also imagine and lead the development of initiatives that improve the quality and quantity of services we offer. Currently we provide services under residential, respite, vocational, and SIL contracts. Service coordinators normally work office hours but do need to have some flexibility, as occasionally they may need to attend evening appointments. There is also an on-call component covering non office hours, which is currently once every 6 weeks, for one week, paid at $10 an hour during non-office hours. During this time you need to be available to staff across the region who may need to phone you for guidance and on rare occasions you will need to physically attend a site during on-call hours.
For the right person, this will be a demanding but exciting, evolving role, allowing you to operate at the forefront of good practice within the sector. We want to assist disabled people live good lives, working closely with them and their whānau, with our actions underpinned by Enabling Good Lives principles. We are fortunate in having many great support workers, although currently not enough of them- finding good staff in partnership with our in-house recruitment advisor will be part of your role. You will need to be an agile thinker, organised, able to view the big picture but also pay attention to detail, and ready to get routine work completed but also flex to meet whatever challenge each day brings. This isn't easy work, and we are not perfect, but we are trying hard to be what disabled people need from us. Certainly, this role comes with both joy and challenges, and very few dull moments!
We want to find the right person to start sometime in early 2026, so, this vacancy closes on 29th November 2026. If this sounds like you, have a look at the job description and get in touch with regional manager rachel.cooper@spectrumcare.org.nz or 027 XXXXXX- office hours only please.
