Job Description
Rotorua Lakes Council is seeking an experienced and hands-on Services Team Leader to coordinate the delivery of cemetery operations and traffic management services across our district. This pivotal role ensures services are delivered with dignity, accuracy, and safety, aligning with council policies and community expectations.
You’ll lead a small team focused on maintaining high standards across cemeteries, traffic management, and asset maintenance. Working in the field alongside Sextons, STMS personnel, contractors, and community partners, you’ll help deliver essential public services that reflect care, respect, and operational excellence.
You will bring proven leadership skills, strong technical knowledge, and a passion for working with community-focused services. You’ll be equally comfortable coordinating people on the ground as you are liaising with stakeholders across council and the community.
Applicants should hold a relevant qualification in grounds maintenance, building/landscaping, and/or traffic management. Experience working in a cemetery environment or in traffic management is preferred. A strong understanding of safety, compliance, and maintenance practices is essential. Applicants must also have experience leading teams and coordinating field operations.
A valid driver’s licence is required. Certifications in traffic management or within the cemetery industry desirable. Experience in grave digging, cremations, or cemetery services is also desirable, as is experience working as an STMS.
You will demonstrate leadership and people management experience, operational planning and coordination skills, and technical understanding of assets and maintenance. Communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills are key, along with a strong focus on health and safety compliance and community engagement.
If you’re ready to lead a service that makes a lasting impact for the Rotorua community, we want to hear from you.
