Course number and title: EESC13H3 - Environmental Impact Assessment and Auditing


Course description: To familiarize students with the relevant legislation, qualitative and quantitative approaches and applications for environmental impact assessments and environmental auditing. The focus will be on the assessment of impacts to the natural environment, however, socio-economic impacts will also be discussed. Environmental auditing and environmental certification systems will be discussed in detail. Examples and case studies from forestry, wildlife biology and land use will be used to illustrate the principles and techniques presented in the course. Students will acquire "hands-on" experience in impact assessment and environmental auditing through case studies.

Number of Hours: 0.5 FTE


Sessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between January 1, 2026 and April 30, 2026


Salary: Salary: Starting September 1, 2026 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $+,820.70 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $10,510.04 for a Sessional Lecturer I-Long Term; $10,510.4 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,760.23 for an Sessional Lecturer II-Long Term; $10,760.23 Sessional Lecturer III; and $11,030.34 for a Sessional Lecturer III-Long Term.


Minimum qualifications: Candidates are required to hold a PhD or MSc from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution in Environmental Science or a closely related field. Applicants should have an outstanding ability to teach and communicate with undergraduate students. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience teaching particularly in the area of environmental risk assessment, auditing and remediation.

Minimum of master degree in environmental science or a related science,

PhD preferred experience and interest in teaching courses in environmental science

Knowledge of environmental risk assessment, auditing and remediation

Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in teaching through student evaluations at the College/University level in environmental sciences, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in the English language empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students. A minimum 3 years of experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment

Ph.D in Environmental Science or previous University teaching experience in Environmental Assessment. Technical and pedagogical competencies in relation to the online delivery of courses would be an asset.

Preparation of lectures, lecturing, creation of exams, term tests, and assignments, marking, marks management, management of Quercus, supervision of TA(s).

Lectures: Tuesdays from 3-5 pm (in-person at UTSC Campus)
