Position Summary
The Small Business Insurance Development Associate will lead the agency’s Small Business Insurance Program, driving new business growth while ensuring exceptional client service delivery.This role blends production, underwriting insight, program development, and team supervision. The successful candidate will build strategy, convert leads into revenue, oversee small business operations, and strengthen carrier relationships.Candidates with prior Commercial Lines Underwriting experience are highly encouraged to apply.
Core Responsibilities
1. Small Business Program Leadership
Develop and execute strategic plans for the Small Business Insurance division
Establish workflows, service standards, and growth targets
Identify new market opportunities and insurance niches
Improve operational efficiency and scalability of the program
2. Business Development & Sales
Manage inbound leads and actively prospect new opportunities
Convert leads into qualified prospects and paying clients
Conduct risk consultations and coverage analysis
Present insurance solutions aligned with client needs
Achieve individual and departmental revenue goals
3. Client & Account Management
Handle accounts ranging from $0 – $75,000 in annual premium
Prepare submissions and negotiate coverage with carriers
Secure quotes, review terms, and bind policies
Manage renewals, cross-selling, and retention initiatives
Maintain strong long-term client relationships
4. Carrier & Market Engagement
Build relationships with insurance carriers and underwriters
Navigate carrier quoting portals and comparative rating systems
Negotiate pricing, coverage enhancements, and underwriting approvals
Stay informed on market trends, appetite changes, and coverage updates
5. Insurance Operations & Systems
Utilize Applied Epic (Insurance Agency Management System) daily
Maintain accurate documentation and activity tracking
Ensure data integrity, policy accuracy, and workflow compliance
Coordinate servicing tasks with support assistants
6. Team Supervision & Leadership
Supervise and mentor two Small Business Assistants
Delegate administrative and servicing responsibilities
Train team members on agency workflows and systems
Monitor productivity and service quality standards
7. Compliance & Risk Management
Maintain compliance with agency procedures and state regulations
Ensure adherence to carrier underwriting guidelines
Protect confidentiality of client information
Support internal audits and documentation standards
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3+ years of insurance industry experience
Advanced knowledge of Commercial Lines Insurance
Strong experience handling small business accounts
Hands-on proficiency with Applied Epic
Experience using multiple insurance quoting portals and carrier systems
Demonstrated success in sales, account growth, or underwriting evaluation
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Active Property & Casualty License (required or obtainable immediately)

Compensation
Base Salary: $65,000 – $80,000
