Fraser Academy is a fully accredited day school, which focuses on educating students in Grades 2-12 with language-based learning disabilities. These students are taught in small class sizes with up to ten students. Each student receives one-to-one language training daily and works with a variety of subject specialist teachers.
Fraser Academy is also an accredited member of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), the Independent Schools Association of British Columbia (ISABC), the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and the Federation of Independent Schools Association (FISA).
Position: Social Studies Department Head & Middle & Senior School Social Studies Teacher

Reports to: Director of Academics and Curriculum and Director of Student Life & Learning
Job Summary
The Social Studies Department Head is the leadership team member responsible for advancing and improving the social studies department in its goals to achieve excellence, develop our students’ historical thinking skills, and support the social studies faculty in continually improving the learning environment supporting student success and building subject area confidence. Additionally as a teacher, you will play an important role in developing historical thinking in students, and promoting social studies throughout the school. You will work with a collaborative, dynamic team of educators and staff who are passionate about the success of all learners. This role requires someone who can adapt and adjust their teaching to meet the diverse needs of each learner and is passionate about student success. Excellent instructional practice and an eagerness to learn and grow as an educator are required for this role.

Responsibilities
Uphold and advance the school’s vision, mission, values and standards
Demonstrate excellent educational and instructional excellence
Maintain and advance the department image in the school (hall-boards, events, etc.)
Participate in leadership meetings and run department meetings
Monitor student academic performance, achievement, and any academic misconduct
Improve & develop the department’s educational practices through:
Setting departmental goals
Developing teaching strategies to achieve excellence
Mentoring faculty (including visiting classrooms)
Organize and support humanities related special events like Remembrance day and Orange Shirt Day
Supporting educational growth and adherence to school’s practices & policies
Partner with faculty members to address parent/student concerns
Set, evaluate and monitor the departmental budget and the ensuing expenses
Participate in academic teams (report card editing, IEP, student advisor, etc.)
Support school events (community education nights, shows, concerts, fairs, etc.
