We are seeking an experienced social or whānau worker to support tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau. This role involves engaging with families and delivering programs to help children thrive.
About the role
In this 12-month fixed-term position, you will be part of an intensive home visiting programme designed to empower vulnerable children (aged 0–5) and their whānau. Your expertise will help improve children's health, learning, relationships, and safety. You'll work alongside families facing complex challenges, supporting them to thrive despite mental health, addiction, or other difficulties.
Whānau with high needs can be referred to Barnardos Taranaki at any time, from pregnancy confirmation until the baby is 12 months old. This service is for families facing mental health issues, addiction, care and protection concerns, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, and other complex needs.
To excel, you'll need:
Proven experience working with tamariki, rangatahi and whānau
Proven experience and a passion to engage with people affected by family harm and who are reluctant to engage
The ability to work autonomously and have excellent time management skills
Excellent communication and organisational skills; strong computer literacy and reporting skills
Flexibility and resilience to meet the needs of the role
A tertiary qualification in social work or other relevant qualification
Have an unrestricted NZ Drivers Licence, and a sense of humour
Culture
This work can sometimes be challenging. You will need resilience and a passion for working with youth, be flexible, have a positive attitude, and exhibit the ability to build strong professional relationships with young people, whanau/families, staff, and service providers. A comprehensive induction programme is undertaken with ongoing education, training, and support offered to all staff.
