Gemstone Care Centre is a comfortable & secure seniors’ long term care home to 130 Seniors, situated on 4 acres of lawns and gardens overlooking the Thompson River in Kamloops. As the Social Worker & Wellness Manager, you are responsible for promoting human rights and empowering people through social services. Your work includes psychosocial assessments, move-in support, and consultations through end-of-life transition. As coordinator for resident care conferences, you facilitate connections with family members, the care team and outside agencies. You support resident financial issues and make necessary applications to Public Trustee, Social Services and other associations as required. As a communications leader, you promote effective conversations and offer guidance on decisions using the ethics framework. As the Wellness Manager, you work closely with the General Manager to implement programs that contribute to overall Workplace Wellness and Wellbeing.

A demonstrated knowledge of social work casework techniques, including psycho-educational and group counselling.
Being adept at working in stressful or emergency situations including diffusing crisis incidents.
Working well as part of an interdisciplinary team and have a pro-active collaborative approach to problem solving.
As a strong communicator, you are able to discuss sensitive topics such as death and dying with families and residents.
Having a solid knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitations, psychiatric disorders, medications, side effects and relevant legislature.
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from an approved school of Social Work
Current Registration with the BC College of Social Workers
Minimum of 2 years’ recent related experience in a long-term care setting;
Intermediate level computer competencies (Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel).
Current valid BC Driver’s License
