Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team at Horizon Science Academy Belmont. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and working with students with special needs.
About the Role:
Implement district-approved curriculum to maximize student learning in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living.
Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and develop plans to overcome them.
Participate in Individual Educational Plan (IEP) development and implementation, collaborating with teachers, administrators, and outside agencies as needed.
Serve as a resource to students and parents, providing counseling and support to promote personal growth, self-awareness, and behavioral management.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure effective communication and coordination of services.
Maintain accurate and complete records, including progress reports and evaluations.
Requirements:
IL State Certification as a Special Education Teacher (LBS1)
Bachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university
Masters degree in Special Education preferred
Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Special Education
Experience working with students with diverse needs and abilities
