Who we’re looking for
The Specialist Engineer UG Mine Ventilation will ensure all global underground operations and studies ventilation plans and practices are compliant with Newmont standards. The role will support major and minor studies, Long-Term Planning and site technical teams with Ventilation design support, as required.
The Specialist will hold expertise in risk assessment and peer review processes, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams to conduct evaluations and deliver clear, actionable recommendations.
Key responsibilities:
Advise on ventilation aspects of underground studies in the Newmont portfolio.
Know and apply regulatory requirements and ensure that Newmont's Standards and Guidelines are followed in ventilation design and operation at Newmont's underground mines and study projects.
Collaborate with site team members to confirm mine service and ventilation provisions meet operational demands.
Supporting the Ventilation Standards and Governance lead to assess the performance of ventilation and other mine services through regular audits and inspections.
When needed, support the Ventilation Standards and Governance lead to update and implement ventilation standards and guidelines.
Advise on the design and optimization of mine ventilation systems.
Recommend continuous improvement and innovation in mine service and ventilation handling.
Lead cross-functional teams to address issues related to mine services.
Provide support to the Director UG Engineering Support in general underground mine design and planning activities.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in compliance monitoring and reporting, underground mine design, scheduling and planning, safety in design principles, risk management, and a solid understanding of mine ventilation regulations and best practices. Additionally you will be adept in managing conflicting priorities.
You will also possess the following:
Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
Significant demonstrated experience inUnderground ventilation and refrigeration / heating design, planning and survey for both large scale (caving) and selective mine methods
Knowledge in Ventilation automation and technologies
Experience in Mine services and ventilation design and applications (Ventsim and Deswik software)
Please note: This role is a remote/hybrid position based in Australia supporting Newmont operations globally. There will be a requirement, as needed, for national and international travel. The position will suit applicants currently living in Perth, Melbourne or Brisbane.
