SQL Database Administrator
We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator to manage and optimize enterprise-scale SQL Server environments across on-premises and cloud platforms. This role requires expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, automation, and high availability strategies to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable data solutions.
In this role, you will:
• Manage large-scale SQL Server databases across on-prem and cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
• Design and optimize OLTP and data warehouse architectures for scalability and performance.
• Lead query tuning, indexing strategies, and table partitioning.
• Configure and maintain SQL Server replication, Always On Availability Groups, and failover clustering to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
• Perform installations, patching, upgrades, and migrations for SQL Server 2017 and newer versions.
• Automate DBA tasks and implement CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Octopus Deploy.
• Monitor system health and performance using tools such as SQL Sentry and Idera.
• Ensure database security, compliance, and sustainability while proactively resolving bottlenecks.
• Partner with technology leadership to align database strategy with business goals.
• Collaborate with developers for query tuning and schema refinement.
• Mentor junior DBAs and data engineers to promote best practices.
• Hands-on experience with SSAS, SSRS, SSIS, and emerging platforms like Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Cosmos DB.
What you'll need to succeed (required skills):
• 8+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration and architecture.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server 2017 and newer versions.
• Proven experience with replication, performance tuning, and index management.
• Solid understanding of OLTP and data warehouse design principles.
• Experience with Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, and AWS RDS.
• Proficiency in database monitoring tools (SQL Sentry, Idera).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Microsoft SQL certifications (MCSA, MCSE) preferred.
• Exposure to PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Cosmos DB is an added advantage.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $79,000 to $92,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
