Job Title: Senior Accountant
Department: Finance/Accounting
Job Overview:
A Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing financial records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards, and providing financial insights to support decision-making. This role involves more complex accounting tasks and may include supervising junior accounting staff, preparing financial statements, managing general ledger activities, and supporting audits.
Key Responsibilities:
• Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) in accordance with company policies and accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
• Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring the timely completion of journal entries, reconciliations, and other closing tasks.
• General Ledger Management: Oversee the general ledger by ensuring proper posting of transactions, reviewing and correcting entries, and maintaining accurate accounts.
• Accounts Reconciliation: Perform reconciliations of bank accounts, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Tax Compliance: Assist with the preparation of tax filings, including sales tax, VAT, and income tax returns, and ensure timely submission.
• Audit Support: Coordinate and provide support during internal and external audits, including preparing schedules, documentation, and ensuring compliance with all accounting policies.
• Cost Accounting: Analyse cost structures, prepare cost reports, and recommend ways to reduce costs and improve profitability.
• Forecasting and Budgeting: Assist in preparing and reviewing annual budgets and forecasts, providing financial analysis to guide decision-making.
• Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight: Manage or oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely payment processing and collections.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and implement best practices to improve efficiency.
• Team Supervision: Supervise and mentor junior accountants or accounting assistants, reviewing their work and providing training and development support.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7-8 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior accounting role.
• Experience with accounting software (e.g., Tally).
• Proficient in MS Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and auditing.
• Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
