Job Description
Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing the financial records, performing various accounting tasks, and ensuring the accuracy of financial information. This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and CTMS (Clinical Trial Management System). The Staff Accountant reports to the VP of Finance & Accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts.
Prepare and post journal entries.
Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
Process and manage accounts payable and receivable transactions.
Prepare and distribute vendor payments.
Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Generate financial reports for management review.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
Assist in the preparation of audit documentation and support internal and external audits.
Perform bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records; Identify and resolve discrepancies.
Assist with payroll processing and related activities, accurately and timely.
Review and process employee expense reports.
Monitor and control operational expenses.
Support special projects and initiatives as required by management.
Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in accounting or finance.
Proficiency in QuickBooks and CTMS (Clinical Trial Management System).
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Experience in the healthcare or research industry - strongly preferred.
Familiarity with ADP Payroll, QuickBooks, and CTMS (Clinical Trial Management System) – required.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
