Job Title: Lift Maintenance Helper

Location: Whitewater Ski Resort

Department: Outdoor Operations

Reports to: Lifts Maintenance Supervisor

Employment Status/Type: Seasonal, Full Time (Summer, April - October)

Compensation: $18-1+.50 - DOE

JOB SYNOPSIS:

Under the direction and supervision of the Lifts Manager, the Lift Maintenance Helper will help the Lift Maintenance team throughout the summer with the summer maintenance program. This individual is responsible for assisting with daily, weekly, and annual maintenance of all ropeways. Performing functions with the utmost safety is crucial in this position and being a leader in safety is vital. Current day-to-day operations include 4 chairlifts and one handle tow.

The Lift Maintenance Helper’s primary role is to work closely with the Lift Maintenance team to help inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair lift equipment. This work involves; fitting bearings, rebuilding sheave trains, servicing grips and performing other mechanical procedures. They work at great heights, in all weather conditions, at any time of the day or night.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate the lift safely and efficiently, working closely with the Lift Maintenance team to learn the proper operation of lift equipment.
Proactively notify maintenance of repair or maintenance needs.
Safely understand and execute all emergency procedures and standard operating procedures.
Help ensure all lifts are maintained in compliance with current CSA Z+8 code, manufacturer’s recommendations and legislation and the BC Safety Act, as they relate to the current lifts and lift maintenance practices.
Perform and document pre-operational checks.
Ensuring all safety procedures are being followed at all times.
Report and rectify any unsafe situations.
Ensure work area(s) are kept safe and clean, report any damage, malfunction, or misuse of any company equipment and/or property, including cleaning lift shacks.
Assisting with the training of Lift Operators.
Assisting the Lift Maintenance team perform required work. This may require running the lift for the team, ensuring lock out procedures are followed, and working at heights on a work deck.
Hiking to tower locations, climbing towers, and assisting with required maintenance.
Ensure radio protocols are followed as per company policy.
Assist in any rope evacuation procedures.
Assist in any emergencies.
Work in a shop environment and be willing to perform shop tasks such as sweeping, cleaning, and doing inventory.
Using a sustainable approach in daily operations, planning, and development.
Work to achieve department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assist in achieving organizational goals.
Promote Whitewater’s safety culture by reviewing and amending where necessary but not limited to: Department manuals, CDPP, employee handbook.
Embrace and promote Whitewater’s mission statement and values.
Maintain current knowledge of legal standards pertaining to equipment, safety regulations, and OHS practices.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:

Related Ski Resort or Tourism experience is an asset.
Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with chair lifts or similar equipment is an asset
Background in lift operations or guest services is considered an asset.
Previous equipment operation experience is an asset.
Previous experience in an outdoor role is an asset.
Completed Grade 12 education or equivalent is required.
Valid BC class 5 driver’s license with clean abstract is required.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Must be a team player and able to work well with others while maintaining a calm & positive attitude, sometimes during high stress.
Are team oriented and able to work cooperatively and effectively with diverse personalities.
Good physical condition (ability to lift 50 lbs objects, ability to constantly walk and perform manual labor on uneven ground)
Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability.
Must be willing to learn.
Ability to work outside for extended periods in adverse weather conditions.
Must be willing to travel to the mountain and work weekends and holidays as required.
Have a passion and enthusiasm for mountain culture, and the resort environment.
Safety oriented, adhere to Occupational Health and Safety responsibility and requirements.
