He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role
Based in Nelson, we provide a support service for tāngata whaiora (people who access our services) with intellectual disabilities and/or complex mental health diagnoses and needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity to have a direct impact on the lives of our people. This is a genuine opportunity to give back to YOUR community, to positively influence people, and support tāngata whaiora on their wellness journey. You will be teaching them life skills such as cooking, art, music and cultural programmes and mentor them to make positive life choices. You will be well supported by your colleagues, service manager, health professionals and the wider Emerge Aotearoa whānau.
This service operates 24/7, so there is the need to be able to work a mixture of shifts to cover the 24-hour roster.
Duties of the role include but are not limited to:
Encourage and support Tangata Whaiora connections with Whānau and provide support with appointments around mental and physical health.
Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Work with tangata whaiora to identify significant goals. Provide encouragement and support to achieve their goals.
Ensure key documentation and handovers are accurately recorded.
Attend and contribute to team meetings, bringing ideas and updating others on their activities.

We're looking for people who want to make a difference, have some life experience, and won't take things personally. You'll have a positive outlook, be patient and show some resilience, as well as empathy, initiative, and a proactive approach. You don't need to have a qualification, but you'll need to be willing to complete one with us. We're looking for someone with sound judgement and the skills to manage risk and make tough decisions.
