Major Responsibilities :
• Assistance in all surgical procedures.
• 4)Assist with foley insertion and catherization.
• 1)Provide assistance to surgeon / physician by draping, sponging, retracting, suctioning, suturing skin closure, tying and cutting sutures in the operative field.
Apply surgical wound dressing.
• 2)Maintain a clean surgical field for the surgeon by managing hemostatis.
• 3)Maintain on-call availability to assist on emergency surgical interventions.
• Assessment, evaluation and documentation of the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the patient.
• 2)Facilitates and implements systems that promote and maintain effective communication and collaboration with the surgery team.
• 3)Acts as a resource for clinical staff and implements education programs that will improve technical skills, enhance knowledge base and improve patient care of the surgery team.
• 4)Responsible for call schedule coverage.
• 1)Collaborate with physician after a physical assessment and interview with patient and family to implement a comprehensive treatment plan of care.
• Provision and promotion of the delivery of patient care in accordance with department standards of care consist with standards of practice of AORN.
• 1)Learn, support, promote, and comply with the policies, procedures, standards and regulations of the department of surgery and the hospital.
• 2)Understanding of basic principles to create and maintain a sterile field.
• 3)Assist the circulating RN with positioning of the patient as directed by the surgeon.
• 4)Prepare and operate clean surgical equipment as directed. Assist with the set-up and assembling of all supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
Assist with patient skin preparation. Check physician's specific needs against physician's preference list.
• 5)Report equipment repair to the Front Desk Coordinator.
• 6)Assist the scrub nurse with clean-up procedure upon completion of the case.
• 7)Assist with transfer of patient from cart to table and vice versa.
• 8)Assist in transportation of patient to the OR suits pre-operatively and to the P.A.C.U. or ICU post-operatively as directed by the circulating RN.
• Productivity
• 2)Must assist surgical team with room turnaround.
• 3)Must be proactive with contribution in obtaining and maintaining Advocate Trinity Hospital's Mission statements and Strategic goals.
• 5)Performs other departmental activities as requested or assigned.
• 6)Maintains a positive professional relationship with all Advocate Trinity customers.
• 1)Prepare for a surgical procedure as follows : Assist with the set-up and assembling of all supplies and equipment required for the procedure.

Education / Experience Required :
Graduated from an Accredited Surgical Assistant Program with a minimal of one year of OR experience .
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required :
• Good communication skills, good writing skills, appropriate clinical skills, ability to work well and cooperative with others
• CPR certified. Surgical Assistant certified. MD candidate that have attended a US medical residency program will be required to obtain a surgical assistant certification within two years of hired date.
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions :
Demonstrates willingness to work with exposure to body fluids, radiation and waste anesthesia games. Staffing / On-Call availability (nights, weekends, and holidays).
Ability to move heavy patients and equipment. Resilient and flexible in a changing environment. Works under stressful conditions and in difficult situations.
Must be able to lift heavy instrument trays up to 50 pounds.
