Position Summary
THE FOCUS IS YOU
As a Tax Research and Resolution Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth tax research, analyzing complex tax issues, and providing resolutions for clients. This role demands a high level of expertise in tax regulations, especially regarding partnerships, analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate findings and solutions. The ideal candidate will serve as an internal resource to the tax team and firm leaders by ensuring compliance with tax laws and optimizing clients’ tax positions.
What You Will Do
Regular duties include (but are not limited to):
Tax Research
• Conduct comprehensive research on complex tax issues and regulations at the federal level
• Interpret and analyze tax laws, rulings, and guidelines to provide accurate and actionable insights
• Stay current with changes in tax legislation and their impact on clients and the firm
• Experience with business tax issues, including formation, operation, distributions, and liquidation
Issue Resolution
• Identify and resolve tax issues by applying tax law knowledge and research findings
• Assist clients in responding to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from tax authorities
Technical Support
• Provide technical tax support to the tax team, firm leaders, and other departments within the firm
• Prepare detailed reports and memoranda documenting research findings and proposed resolutions
• Ensure all work complies with relevant tax laws and firm policies
• Utilize advanced tax research tools and software (e.g., CCH, RIA, BNA) for in-depth analysis
Collaboration And Training
• Collaborate with tax professionals within the firm to share knowledge and best practices
• Mentor and train junior tax staff on research methodologies and resolution strategies
• Participate in the development of internal tax research resources and tools
What We Are Looking For
Required education and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• Juris Doctor (JD), LL.M or CPA certification (must have credentials to correspond with the IRS)
• 7+ years of experience in tax research and issue resolution in a CPA firm or similar environment
• Extensive experience with tax research tools (e.g., CCH, Checkpoint, RIA, BNA, Bloomberg)
• Significant experience with partnership tax issues, including tax compliance and planning
Preferred Education And Experience
• Advanced degree (JD, LL.M in Taxation, Master of Taxation)
