Role : Taxonomist – E-commerceLocation: UK- RemoteDuration: 11 MonthsAbout the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Taxonomist to support ecommerce and catalog initiatives within a large-scale digital product environment.This role focuses on enriching, standardising, and maintaining product attributes within a unified taxonomy to support classification systems, machine learning workflows, and improve catalog quality at scale.Key ResponsibilitiesAnalyse large datasets (Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, or scripting) to identify exact and fuzzy matches across vocabulariesResearch, define, and enrich taxonomy nodes using internal and external sourcesStandardise and normalise product attributes (e.g., brand, category, specifications) following governance guidelinesSupport cross-taxonomy mapping, vertical expansion, and front-end taxonomy designCollaborate with engineering teams on ML classification, annotation, and model output evaluationCommunicate progress clearly and proactively with stakeholdersRequired:2+ years’ experience developing taxonomies and/or ontologies for front-end and back-end systemsExperience working with ecommerce platforms or large product catalogsStrong understanding of taxonomy principles, classification standards, and governanceExcellent attention to detail and ability to work independentlyStrong written and verbal communication skillsPreferredMaster’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, or related fieldExperience analysing large datasets using SQL or other query languagesExposure to machine learning classification systemsFamiliarity with AI tools or prompt-ba
