Job Description

Position Description

Harris County Juvenile Probation Overview:
Harris County Juvenile Probation Department is committed to the protection of the public, utilizing intervention strategies that are community-based, family-oriented, and least restrictive while emphasizing responsibility and accountability of both parent and child.

Under the authority of the Juvenile Board, the Educational Services Division offers educational programs for expelled students, delinquent youth in county-operated juvenile institutions, and students on probation seeking alternatives to traditional high school settings. The Juvenile Probation Department oversees all programs of Excel Academy Charter School, the Excel Academy Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program, and The Opportunity Center.

All youth placed by the courts in Harris County juvenile detention and residential facilities receive educational services through the comprehensive academic program of Excel Academy Charter School. This program is funded by the Texas Education Agency, along with state and federal grants. Excel Academy Charter School offers both a regular school year program and a summer school program to help students continuously enhance their educational skills. The charter school emphasizes core academic curriculum, STAAR remediation, vocational education, and life skills. It also includes The Opportunity Center campus, which provides alternative education opportunities for currently and previously system-involved young people who seek an alternative to traditional high school.
