ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Manage teaching protocol for cancer patients in CanShala, a formal school run at Mumbai for children undergoing cancer treatment. Ensure curriculum-based learning is imparted to children in order to ensure they are prepared to reintegrate into the standard education system in India after completion of their treatment cycle.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
This department of education represents education outside of a standard school setting. CanShala is one of its kind formal school run at Mumbai for children with cancer and their siblings who are deprived of continuous learning opportunity because of the treatment for cancer. Formal education aims at activities with children and adults that will help them learn as per the curriculum and also provide for extra-curricular activities.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
1. Support team in mobilizing registrations, attendance and impact.
2. Impart education as per PEPs and set Formal and Non-Formal curriculums, online and/or face-to-face, including preparing teaching and creative sheets for children as per age group and/or level and preparing students for the school or State Board exam.
3. Assist Principal in the Scholarship Program.
4. Counsel children and prepare them for reintegration to the outside world.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conduct classes and creative learning sessions for children as per defined age groups and/or levels.
2. Work with CanShala Team to provide to new entrants the YANA Program.
3. Work with the Education Counsellor to conduct the Diagnostic Assessments and subsequently create an Individual Education Plan for each child.
4. Conduct group and/or one-on-one personalized sessions based on the learning capacity of children.
5. Follow time tables created for the class.
6. Take initiatives and implement new and better teaching methodologies and aides for health impaired and slow learners.
7. Take attendance and maintain all records of children registered at the school.
8. Prepare worksheets, lessons, test papers and other study material as per age groups.
+. Manage registrations/admissions of children in school and periodically visit dharamshalas (and other shelter homes) to convince all enrolled children to attend school every day.
10. Work with the team and support them in increasing student registrations at CanShala.
11. Provide Principal with correct information of children undertaking studies at CanShala to enable certification to the children leaving CanShala after completion of treatment.
12. Work with the Principal for the Scholarship Program. Identify children with potential and provide additional support if required.
13. Ensure basic hygiene, etiquettes and discipline is maintained in the classroom.
14. Prepare reports of weekly, monthly educational activities conducted, record number of sessions conducted and progress of children
15. Support team in managing teaching aids and resources.
16. Coordinate with different Activity Teachers for Therapeutic Activities to be provided to students under one’s care.
17. Work with PSG members, volunteers and other team members, etc. in managing child-centric events at CanShala and assist in the same at hospitals and wards as required.
18. Ensure all parents are updated of child's progress and counsel them on importance and need of education whenever required. Conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings at least once a month.
1+. Counsel students and establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to students.
20. Refer students for further counseling to Senior Counselor, if they are not able to understand.
