Teacher, Lead Drama Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:
Hold, or be eligible to hold, a Georgia teaching certificate in Drama (P-12) - Required
Advanced degree - Preferred


Experience:
Minimum 3 years of successful teaching - Required
Some theatre directing experience required - Required
Experience at the high school level – Preferred
Ability to lead courses in acting and production in film – Preferred


JOB SUMMARY:


To provide theatre instruction for students and to present performances as part of that instruction. Assists with the supervision of and coordinates theatre activities; supports each theatre participant in achieving a higher level of personal skill, fosters an enhanced appreciation for theatre, and increases student capability through rehearsals and performances.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Demonstrates consistent punctuality and reliability in drama-related instructional and production activities.
Leads courses in a wide variety of performance styles including on-camera classes, Shakespeare and period styles, advanced techniques, voice and speech, movement, etc.
Assists in planning and delivering the district’s 6–12 drama curriculum to ensure aligned instructional progression.
Coordinates with the MPAC director to integrate staging, lighting, sound, and set design into instruction and performances.
Provides shared leadership in technical direction, stage management, and crew supervision for school productions.
Selects productions that match student instructional needs and community expectations.
Provides individualized drama instruction to support diverse learners and ensure steady artistic growth.
Dedicates extended hours to rehearsals, performances, and district events beyond the standard teacher workday.
Selects dramatic works that deepen student acting technique and strengthen understanding of theatre as an art form.
Directs student productions and establishes rehearsal expectations for disciplined ensemble performance.
Plans, schedules, and conducts auditions using transparent and equitable procedures.
Supports students pursuing advanced performance opportunities such as GHP, All-State Theatre, and scholarship auditions.
Collaborates with Drama Teachers to recruit new students and maintain a strong theatre program pipeline.
Partners with other Fine Arts disciplines (Band, Orchestra, Dance, Visual Arts) to design integrated arts experiences.
Creates a classroom environment conducive to safe, expressive, and developmentally appropriate drama learning.
Uses strategic instructional methods and materials that reflect student learning needs and drama pedagogy.
Manages departmental paperwork including inventory, purchase orders, field trip requests, publicity, and scheduling.
Plans and accompanies students on theatre-related trips and approved community performance events.
Works with district-level theatre staff on marketing, technical rehearsals, and shared production logistics.
Maintains timely, professional communication with parents regarding instruction and performance expectations.
Performs additional responsibilities assigned by the school administration.
Leads and provides support for summer-related drama programs.

Exhibit knowledge in subject area and ability to present accurate information
Exhibit ability to collaborate with staff in an extremely active performing arts environment is essential
Demonstrate knowledge of overall operation of theatre equipment is essential
Demonstrate ability to manage budget and personnel
Demonstrate ability to communicate responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership; Demonstrate excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
Demonstrate professional ethics in all work-related activities
Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members to grow programs within the district
Demonstrate effective classroom management skills
Demonstrate excellent organizational skills
Demonstrate ability to maintain emotional control under stress
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
