Teacher of the Visually Impaired
We are seeking an experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired to work with students from general education classes to those with cognitive disabilities and medically fragile conditions.
Responsibilities:
Perform functional vision and learning media assessments on new referrals and three-year re-evaluations.
Develop age-appropriate IEP goals for safe and independent travel, including adapting job-related experiences.
Prepare documentation and team assessments to attend IEP meetings.
Consult with related staff concerning appropriate evaluation, instructional strategies and accommodations.
Assist in determining and procuring classroom equipment and materials necessary for students with visual impairments to learn.
Monitor students' progress in academic subjects and provide instruction in compensatory skills as needed.
Provide instruction to promote listening skills, visual efficiency, concept development, career readiness, leisure and recreation skills, social skills, organization and study skills, and self-advocacy.
Participate in professional growth activities such as conferences, classes, staff meetings and visitations.
Requirements:
Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification/Licensure through the Virginia Department of Education.
At least 1 year of experience as a TVI in a similar setting.
Must possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Work Arrangements:
Caseload and details of position/classroom type will differ based on school location.
Contract through the 2026/2026 school year - 37.5 to 40 hours per week.
