Job Description
Assists the teacher in implementing educational plans and curricula in a classroom with special emphasis on maintenance of discipline and tutoring one on one with students. Reviews lesson plans with teacher to contribute information and ideas as appropriate. Supervises and works with students in small group learning situations. Implements behavior management techniques. Corrects/grades completed work.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING):
Working with the teacher to create a supportive classroom environment in which students’ academic, social, and emotional needs are met
Assisting classroom teacher in evaluating students’ progress, keeping records and materials, and grading assignments
Communicating with teachers regarding concerns, questions, or issues that arise pertaining to students
Directing parent questions and concerns to the classroom teacher
Under direction of the teacher, developing lesson plans and teaching designated concepts, skills, and subjects to students
Assisting substitute teacher in the absence of classroom teacher (may qualify as substitute teacher with valid substitute permit)
Working with the teacher to select instructional materials and resources appropriate to the learning level of the students and subject areas
Supervising students on the yard during nutrition and lunch, guiding students in the use of expected behavior, correcting students when unexpected behavior occurs
Organizing and maintaining classroom files for each student
Attending in-service training meetings, parent teacher conferences, team meetings, school special events, and workshops
Maintaining confidentiality regarding students and colleagues
Adhering to all laws pertaining to Mandated Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS):
AA degree or above preferred
Related coursework preferred
No credential required
Able to write clearly (typing and by hand), read and comprehend textbooks, manuals, and reports, and speak comfortably with colleagues, students, and parents
Organizational skills required
Math skills equivalent to Algebra 1 level required
Must be able to use logic and problem-solving skills with colleagues, parents, and students
Job requires a combination of sitting, standing, kneeling, lifting (up to 20 lbs), and walking
Able to closely supervise students at play and intervene appropriately
Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-task, deadline oriented environment
Able to tolerate a moderate level of noise and movement

Pay: $21.22 - $22.19 per hour
