Job Description
Our WHS team has two key functions:
Strategic Function: Develops policies and procedures, oversees the WHS 4-year action plan and the annual LGA (Local Government Association) KPI action plan, handles WHS reporting and management review, and addresses audit responsibilities.
Operational Function: Manages day-to-day safety services, ensuring compliance and offering advice and guidance.
As the Team Leader, you will spearhead our progression from a compliance-based safety model, where safety activities are undertaken out of obligation, to a behavioral safety model, where safety is a proactive choice made by employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the WHS function, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Develop and grow a professional team of 6 direct reports.
Embed a proactive safety culture within the organisation’s decision-making systems.
About You
Experienced leader who is capable of empowering and inspiring the team to perform to an exceptional standard.
High level of emotional intelligence coupled with humility, resilience and tenacity to enable you to effectively build rapport and credibility across the organisation.
Ability to negotiate, influence and drive change, whilst being collaborative to achieve strategic WHS goals in a complex environment.
Key Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated ability to influence and excite others to unite and move towards achieving common goals.
Strong organisational and team building skills with demonstrated high level negotiation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to achieve positive outcomes.
Significant experience at the strategic and operational level in the field of WHS and injury management to support organisational operations.
Comprehensive knowledge of legislative frameworks, risk management policies and processes and their relationship to the operational activities of WHS and the organisation.
Experience in applying and managing best practice change management principles and practices, and the development and delivery of strategies, and monitoring and reporting on outcomes.
Tertiary qualification in WHS or related discipline
Candidates with or without local government experience are encouraged to apply.
