Design: Create sketches, designs, and samples by hand or with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Research: Research new fabrics and textiles, including sustainable materials.
Development: Work with clients and technical staff to develop designs, and consider weaves, fringe, and tassels.
Production: Make samples and send designs to manufacturers for production.
Presentation: Present designs and samples to customers for evaluation.
Marketing: Market and sell products online, at craft fairs, or through retail outlets.
Trend tracking: Keep up to date with design trends and developments in manufacturing technologies.
Specialization: Specialize in one area, such as clothing, furnishing fabrics, or hand crafted textiles.
Textile designers may work independently or as part of a small team. They may also travel nationally or internationally, and work long hours, including evenings and weekends
