Job Description
We are looking for a highly creative, detail-oriented Textile Designer with a strong sensibility for prints, color, and contemporary silhouette-making. In this role, you will design seasonal collections that bring Freedom Tree’s print stories to life across surfaces from textiles to ceramics, home furnishings to apparel. You will translate conceptual narratives into pieces for the home and to wear while upholding the craft, quality, and breezy fun that Freedom Tree is known for.
This role is full-time, in-person based in our studio in Byculla, Mumbai.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Collection Design & Development
• Conceptualize and design home furnishing and clothing collections aligned with seasonal print stories and brand identity.
• Create original designs, silhouettes, surface details, trims, and finishing techniques that complement key prints and color palettes.
• Develop mood boards, sketches, detailed tech packs, and spec sheets for sampling.
2. Print Design & Exploration
• Work closely to explore and develop prints to integrate artwork into products meaningfully
• Select and test materials, fabrics that support both print clarity and product construction.
• Explore innovative fabric treatments, dye techniques, and surface embellishment options.
3. Sampling & Production Coordination
• Oversee the sampling process end-to-end—color trials, revisions, fabric approvals, print strike-offs, and finishing quality.
• Collaborate with printers, pattern makers, sample masters, and production partners to ensure final products meet brand standards.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with merchandising, marketing, and visual teams to ensure cohesive storytelling across product, photoshoots, and retail display.
• Support the creation of lookbooks, campaign styling, and product naming.
• Ensure timely handover of deliverables to cross-teams for launch planning.
5. Trend & Market Research
• Stay updated with global fashion trends, emerging print techniques, textile innovations, and customer insights.
• Analyze boutique and indie brand markets to ensure our collections are fresh, relevant, and commercially viable.
6. Documentation & Workflow
• Maintain organized design archives, fabric libraries, and print placement files.
• Prepare clear handover documents and maintain collection timelines.
Who You Are:
• An imaginative designer with a passion for prints, color, and contemporary design.
• Strong sketching ability (digital or hand), a keen eye for detail, and a refined sense of color.
• Deep understanding of product construction and performance.
• Able to balance creativity with practicality and cost-efficiency.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative studio environment where design, craft, and experimentation are valued.
Requirements:
• Degree in Textile/Surface Design/Apparel Design or related field.
• 1–4 years of experience in textile or apparel design, preferably with a print-driven or boutique brand
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other technical design programs.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Experience working with sampling units and production vendors.
