Job Description
Duties:
· Remove and replace track components (e.g., ties, rails, bars, etc.).
· Drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts and tighten or loosen bolts at joints that hold ends or rails together.
· Unload and/or assist in the unloading of and distribution of track material including rails, ties, spikes, plates, joint bars, bolts. and rail anchors.
· Cut rails to specific lengths. Slide/place and align tie plates under rails and to cut portion of tie so that tie plate can be levelled.
· Replace, repair, and adjust track switches to replace specific components.
· Cut brush, trees, and vegetation from the right-of-way and clean up any debris/garbage
· Spray switches, angle bars, and joints with oil for lubrication to protect them from weather.
· Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge.
· Clean switches during winter conditions, using brooms, shovels and power equipment.
· Install and repair street crossing and railroad crossings.
· Build and install track panels.
· Adjust, lift, and roll rails.
· Perform other related duties as required.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or equivalent required.
· Reading comprehension (general and technical).
· Oral/written communication: problem solving and decision making.
· Auditory acuity: Visual acuity/tracking/inspection; teamwork; understanding visual symbols and displays.
· Welding experience is an asset.
· DZ licence is an asset.
· Work outdoors most of the time.
· Work at elevations (e.g., bridges more than 12 feet above ground level) occasionally.
· Pass pre-employment medical / Criminal Background Check/ Drivers Abstract.
· Valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
Working Conditions:
· Working in a high-risk environment, exposure to heavy moving equipment. Safety-critical position.
· Work takes place outdoors so workers may be exposed to various weather conditions.
· Work may involve bending, twisting, walking, standing and lifting up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
· Ability to work flexible hours for extended periods of time.
· Physically able to complete all tasks as assigned including repetitive movements through the duration of a shift.
· Overtime and weekend work availability required.
· Must work using all required PPE.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $21.00-$25.24 per hour
