Urgent opening for Direct Tax - Litigation - Nariman Point

We are looking for an experienced tax professional to handle direct tax matters, assessments, and appeals, with a focus on CIT(A) proceedings. The ideal candidate should possess sound knowledge of the Income Tax Act, hands-on experience in filing appeals, drafting submissions, and representing the company/clients before appellate authorities. Key Responsibilities:CIT(A) Appeals: Prepare and file appeals before the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) under the Income Tax Act. Draft detailed statement of facts and grounds of appeal. Prepare written submissions, case laws, and documentary evidence to support appeals. Attend and represent the company/client in hearings before CIT(A). Track and monitor the status of appeals and related notices. Tax Litigation & Representation: Represent the company or clients before tax authorities in scrutiny, reassessment, and penalty proceedings. Draft and file responses to income tax notices under Sections 143(2), 142(1), 147, 148, etc. Prepare and file appeals before CIT(A), ITAT, and assist in matters before higher courts (where required). Draft written submissions, legal arguments, and statement of facts and grounds of appeal. Direct Tax Compliance & Litigation: Assist in handling assessment proceedings (scrutiny, reassessment, etc.) under Sections 143(2), 147, 148. Draft responses to notices under Sections 142(1), 133(6), and 143(1). Coordinate with the tax department and ensure timely compliance with all statutory obligations. Handle rectification applications, stay petitions, and refund follow-ups. Tax Advisory & Research: Provide advice on complex income tax matters, including disallowances, TDS, MAT, etc. Conduct research on judicial precedents and recent case laws relevant to appeal matters. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in direct tax laws and assess their impact. Coordination & Documentation: Liaise with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and legal counsels. Maintain accurate and updated documentation for all ongoing and closed appeal cases. Prepare MIS reports and trackers for tax litigations and assessments. Required Skills & Qualifications: Chartered Accountancy (CA Inter/LLB/MBA Finance is a plus). 3–6 years of experience in direct tax litigation and appellate practice. In-depth knowledge of Income Tax Act, appeal procedures, and recent judgments. Strong drafting and legal interpretation skills. Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and use of e-filing and income tax portals. Ability to work independently under pressure and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
