About us
Animal Medical Hospital is a small animal veterinary hospital caring for dogs and cats on the North Shore.
We are seeking in-room assistants for the veterinarians at our small animal (dog and cat) hospital to help the veterinarians examine patients who are here for routine checkups as well as for care when they are sick. Assistants will be expected to:
coordinate the flow of appointments with the veterinarian
obtain patient medical history from clients
admit patients for appointments
humanely and kindly restrain pets for examination and procedures
record examination findings
coordinate treatments with other staff members
dispense medications prescribed by the veterinarian
review home care instructions with clients
make entries into practice management software
In addition, assistants may be trained in a variety of other areas, including telephone reception, instrumentation, sterilization of surgical packs, and other tasks as needed on a day to day basis when not assisting in the exam room.
Assistants need to be able to organize themselves (and the veterinarians) to move patients in and out of the hospital efficiently, track procedures that need to be performed for each patient, ensure that the procedures are done in a timely fashion, and follow up on client questions.
Qualifications that will help you perform this job well:
A basic course in medical terminology
A VOA certificate will put you toward the head of the pack
Previous experience is a bonus
Previous animal handling experience (dog training, cat wrangling, working at a boarding kennel, grooming, bathing) is a plus
A good sense of humor, because you WILL get peed on sometimes!
