The Essex Terminal Railway is recruiting for its Morterm Limited terminal. Morterm Limited is located in Windsor, Ontario and provides a range of material handling services including stevedoring, steel storage and handling, warehousing, project cargoes, bulk products and heavy equipment operations.

General Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for the operation of various equipment and varying sizes of lift trucks, and performing other general labour required to load and unload trucks, rail cars and vessels. The work is physically demanding, and you will be required to work in various weather conditions and work extended hours (during vessel season). This is a unionized position that adheres to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Where assigned – Lift Truck driving requires operating various sizes of Lift Trucks to load/unload material from trucks, railcars and vessels (ships)

· Able to perform general labour duties including yard clean-up

· Must be able to work outside in all seasons and weather conditions

· Requires lifting / carrying up to 50 lbs. Various Manual Handling duties

· Able to work at varying heights. Ability to board vessels using ladders, and climb in vessel holds where required -extensive ladder use in some duties. Required to work close to bodies of water (docks)

· Use of various equipment – scissor lifts, lift trucks, overhead cranes, rail track mobile and various other equipment

· Able to complete assignments independently and as a team

· Observe and comply with all applicable safety regulations, company policies, safety procedures and guidelines including but not limited to the wearing of all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

· Ability to read, write, count and use computers or other electronic devices to record cargo details accurately and legibly

· Visual Inspections to report damage or discrepancies accurately

· Perform other duties as assigned by the management team

· Slinging and rigging various materials for moving, loading and unloading

Job Requirements

· High school diploma or equivalent required

· Valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving abstract

· Construction experience/background is an asset

· Slinging and Rigging experience is an asset

· Overhead crane or reach stacker experience is an asset

· Lift truck operator certificate and previous work experience is preferred

· Previous experience as general labourer preferred

· Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety standards, and safe work practices

· Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, as position is based primarily outdoors

· Must be able to meet tight deadlines

· Must be able to judge distances well and have clear & effective communication skills, for heavy equipment operations

· Be highly aware of your surroundings, high truck traffic/ heavy equipment volumes in yard – safety sensitive and safety critical positions

· Manual dexterity

· Quick response to constantly changing environment

· Strong decision making & critical thinking skills

· This position will require you to be available and work overtime as required during our vessel season, due to business requirements

Pay: $1+.58-$26.42 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
