This is a part-time position that works directly with youth in a licensed before and after-school setting at a local elementary school site. As part of a team, the Youth Development Teacher impacts the lives of youth by helping them learn, grow, and develop. By exemplifying and teaching skills through both formal and informal lessons, in a safe and supportive environment, the Youth Development Teacher leads youth in becoming great citizens.

Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Youth Development Teacher leads the program management and supervision of a group of children aged 5-12 years old, along with the planning, implementation, and facilitation of activities and events for participants.

Schedule
The working hours are Monday through Friday, from 1:30pm to 6pm (you must be available at least three days a week).

Responsibilities
Implement age-appropriate program activities that engage students in active and meaningful experiences and align with the goals and policies of the YMCA of San Diego County.
Actively supervise program participants, ensuring their guidance and safety at all times.
Communicate in a timely, positive, and professional manner with all participants, families, school, and district personnel, and community partners.
Collaborate with school personnel and program partners to align high-quality academic activities and coordinate student services.
Provide positive behavior guidance that supports the developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs of all students.
Evaluate and ensure that the program meets the requirements of the YMCA of San Diego County.
Perform daily duties that ensure space is properly maintained, organized, clean, and safe.
Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff.
Provide leadership to all assigned YMCA Youth Development Aides.
Must be highly dependable and able to be flexible with change within a daily schedule.
Have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation.
Be physically able to lead sports, games, and curriculum activities, monitor youth behavior, and perform general housekeeping responsibilities.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field. (Related fields can include Arts, Early Childhood Education, Education, Humanities, Physical Education, Psychology, Recreation, Sociology, and Theater)
A minimum of six months' experience working in a child and youth development, education, or comparable setting is preferred.
Basic computer skills and the ability to speak, read, and write English language are required. Additional languages are highly desirable.
Must have a sincere interest in working with children aged 5-12 years old and the ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner.
Criminal record clearance in accordance with YMCA and Community Care Licensing guidelines.
Pass a physical exam and provide negative TB test results within seven days of hire. (TB test results need to be current within one year.)
Provide proof of measles (MMR), pertussis (TDap), and influenza immunizations within seven days of hire. (TDap needs to be current within ten years, MMR does not need to be renewed.)
Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification are required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following:
American Red Cross
American Heart Association
American Safety & Health Institute
