STATUS: Fixed Term Part Time (0.5 FTE) for 4 weeks

Established in 1+23, Karitane is a dynamic and innovative not for profit health organisation and registered charity providing early parenting services. We support families with children from birth to 5 years of age through building parenting capacity, enhancing parent child relationships and strengthening a family’s connections with supports in their community. Our services are evidence based and delivered by a caring and highly trained professional team of child and family health nurses, paediatricians, social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists offering complete, holistic care.
PURPOSE
This short-term Aboriginal Research Officer role will support the evaluation of the ForWhen service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait families. The role will primarily involve the conduct of brief qualitative interviews with Aboriginal and Torres Strait parents who have accessed the ForWhen service to learn about their experiences with the program, and suggestions about future service development. The role will work alongside a small team of researchers and will report to the Director of Research, Associate Professor Jane Kohlhoff.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: (Each criteria below must be addressed in your cover letter)
This is an identified Aboriginal Position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent, have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander cultures and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification, and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1+77, NSW
Relevant qualifications in health, health-related or community services discipline and / or relevant experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in healthcare or social services.
Experience conducting semi-structured interviews and with qualitative analysis
Experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Excel and NVivo.
Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality.
Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
An understanding of and commitment to Karitane’s vision and purpose, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Recruit research participants and conduct qualitative interviews.
Perform qualitative data analyses as required by the research project.
Liaise with collaborators and actively participate in meetings and discussions as required.
Coordinate, plan and complete day-to-day research activities within the framework of agreed project timelines and responsibilities.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Fixed term employment status is in accordance with the Named NSW (Non - Declared) Affiliated Health Organisation Employee Agreement. Shift times and days may be varied according to the needs of the organisation. Karitane services are provided at a number of sites within the Sydney Metropolitan Area and across NSW.
The majority of Karitane services close for approximately two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period, during which time employees are required to take leave.

VACCINATIONS
Category A workers are required to meet and maintain the vaccination criteria (as per the current NSW Health policy directive) including annual influenza vaccinations. Annual Influenza vaccinations are mandatory.
