The Role: The Accountant is responsible for safeguarding One Family Illinois’s (OFI) assets through assuring best practice
compliance regarding all aspects of resource outlay and usage by the organization. This includes use and
preservation of cash and physical assets, as well as contract performance by OFI staff and vendors.
Responsibilities:
Oversees payroll processing; collaborates with Human Resources (HR) regarding accuracy and timeliness
of all payroll aspects in accordance with OFI internal control policies and procedures and payroll vendor
requirements (ADP).
Prepares payroll journal entries, including accruals, and resulting allocations to functional department
expense categories.
Reconciles quarterly payroll tax return reporting with payroll service.
Reviews and uploads employee expense report journal entries into payroll reimbursement system.
Manages employee benefits accounting; collaborates with HR regarding accuracy and timeliness of
payment for health plans, 403(b) retirement plans, and any other additional approved benefit plans.
Prepares employee benefits journal entries, including accruals, and resulting allocations to functional
department expense categories.
Oversees Month-end close including, but not limited to reconciling accounts payable sub-ledger to general
ledger, compiling statistical information needed for month-end closing, completing the functional
department allocations for payroll, and reconciling fixed asset sub-ledger to general ledger.
Maintains fixed asset register and amortization/depreciation schedules through accounting system.
Records/capitalizes all fixed assets acquired by the organization (>$500) including description/purpose,
quantity cost, location, assigns specific asset identification tag and assures tag attachment to fixed asset.
Assures vendor contracts are received and reviewed by the OFI contract owner and subsequently
recorded. Note: OFI policy requires all contracts to be reviewed by outside counsel prior to verbal or
written commitment.
Works with Staff Accountant to monitor contract dates and compliance to advise the contract owner of
