About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Accountant with strong local government and schools finance experience to deliver high-quality financial reporting, advice and support to schools. You’ll play a key role in helping schools manage budgets effectively, meet statutory requirements, and make informed financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert, customer-focused financial information, training, analysis, modelling, and advice to schools.
Support schools in developing robust 3-year financial plans, budgets, and forecasts.
Monitor budgets, prepare clear management and statutory financial reports.
Reconcile Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG) lines and ensure accurate reporting.
Identify material financial risks using trends and benchmarking data; provide timely feedback to Head Teachers and School Business Managers.
Manage year-end closures, accruals, disclosures, and prepare working papers for the statutory Statement of Accounts.
Respond to complex internal and external audit queries in line with protocols.
Participate in staff development and training to maintain best practice standards.
About You
Essential:
AAT qualified, part-qualified or working towards a recognised professional accounting body membership.
Proven knowledge of local government finance, Dedicated Schools Grant, DfE statutory reporting, and schools budget frameworks.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; confident working with Head Teachers, School Business Managers and senior leaders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in using finance systems and Microsoft Office.
Able to exercise initiative and sound judgement while delivering a customer-focused service.
