The Accounting Specialist plays a crucial role in managing council cash receipts, accounts payable, and balance sheet reconciliations. This position also ensures smooth troop bank account operations and provides essential backup for payroll processing, supporting our commitment to seamless financial operations.
This full-time, 35 hour per week position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that values precision and expertise in accounting practices.

What does an Accounting Specialist do?
- Manage accounts receivable and cash receipts
• Records cash receipts and interbank transfers into the general ledger
• Makes physical deposits in the council’s bank account
• Records retail shop sales daily
• Manages the council’s property rental receivables and payments
• Process monthly ACH payment collections
- Oversee accounts payable and cash disbursements
• Process invoices and credits
• Research and resolve vendor issues
• Maintains vendor files
• Prepares annual 10++ tax forms.
• Records and reconciles purchase card receipts
- Account Reconciliations
• Supports reconciliation of fall product program
• Maintains fixed asset records
• Maintains and reconciles prepaid expense schedules
• Reconciles retail shop inventory
• Prepares other balance sheet account reconciliations as necessary
- Provide payroll support
• Prepares and maintains payroll information in a confidential manner.
• Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis from online system (ADP).
• Creates and maintains records for new and terminating staff.
• Makes pay rate and benefit deduction changes.
• Calculates benefit deductions for new and terminating staff.
What are we looking for in a team member?
• Two years of accounting experience.
• Accounting degree preferred.
• Proficient data entry, arithmetic, and organizational skills are required to manage the financial systems and documentation required.
• Accuracy, consistency, and understanding of council policies and budgets
• Must be confidential in dealing with payroll and collection responsibilities.
• Must have professional customer service demeanor.
• Self-starter who can work independently and takes initiative; is flexible, adaptable, organized, and has a strong attention to detail.
• Must be able to meet deadlines and communicate deadlines to others.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel).
• Experience in non-profit fund accounting preferred
• The ability to learn and understand the functionality of various databases is essential.
• Position is office-based; may be occasionally required to work outside of normal business hours.
• Adheres to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement and becomes a registered member of GSUSA.
• Ability and willingness to perform tasks that involve the ability to exert physical effort, which may include some bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 25 pounds).
