Adviser, Data Analysis and Insights

Salary: $97,955 - $111,142 per annum (plus Superannuation)
Tenure: Ongoing, full-time role
Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne CBD (flexibility may be available)
The Role

The Adviser, Data Analysis and Insights, contributes to key strategic projects aimed at improving the productivity and competitiveness of Victoria's regions. The role supports the growth of local industries, job creation, and improved outcomes for regional communities by providing robust economic analysis, data analytics, modelling and evidence-based policy advice.

Working within Regional Development Victoria, the Adviser undertakes complex analytical work across new and diverse issues, often with uncertain or incomplete information, and translates data-driven insights into clear and practical advice to inform regional economic development policy and program delivery.

Main Accountabilities

Undertake technical data analysis, economic modelling and research and prepare reports and analytical products
Manage projects and workstreams under limited direction
Provide professional scientific, technical or specialist advice based on economic and analytical expertise
Contribute expertise to teams working on complex, cross-cutting projects
Convey specialist concepts, data insights and policies clearly to clients, staff and stakeholders
The Team

The Adviser, Data Analysis and Insights forms part of the Data and Insights team within the Place Based Strategy, Insights and Coordination Branch, in Regional Development Victoria.

The branch leads place-based policy and insights across DJSIR and the Victorian Public Service. It delivers the evidence base and policy platform to influence regional economic outcomes, support high-quality program delivery, and ensure place-based perspectives are central to RDV and DJSIR advice.

About You

You are an analytical adviser with strong data literacy skills, including the ability to use advanced Excel formulas, pivot tables and data visualisation. You can apply systems thinking to understand complex socio-economic issues, critically analyse evidence, and communicate insights clearly and succinctly to a range of audiences to support effective policy and program outcomes.

A degree in Economics or a related field is mandatory.
