Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.

The Damage Claims and Court Services Unit oversees incident investigations related to personal injury, property, and environmental damages. Its responsibilities include investigating claims from the public, recovery actions, and developing and maintaining the Department's policies concerning claims processes. The Unit also provides expert support and advice related to incident response.

What you will do

Reporting to the Manager of the Damage Claims and Court Services Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

investigating property and environmental damage reported by the public;
providing positive, open communication with the public regarding procedures and investigation conclusions;
supporting the Manager with investigations related to litigation actions and New Brunswick Small Claims Court preparation;
drafting detailed-memos, letters, and reports concerning claim status;
ensuring interactive communication between claimants, government departments, and other stakeholders.
Work environment:

Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton.
Open office layout.
Standard hours of work: Monday – Friday.
We promote a scent-reduced environment.
Some travel within the province will be required.

Essential Qualifications:

Engineering and Field Level V:

Graduation from a recognized two (2) year Engineering Technology Program.
A minimum of four (4) years of related work experience in investigation and/or writing reports.
Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (NBSCETT) or Registered as a Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists with a Canadian regulatory body.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification.

Engineering and Field Level IV:

Graduation from a recognized two (2) year Engineering Technology Program.
A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in investigation and/or writing reports.
Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (NBSCETT) or Registered as a Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists with a Canadian regulatory body.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
Engineering and Field Level III:

Graduation from a recognized two (2) year Engineering Technology Program.
A minimum of two (2) years of related work experience in investigation and/or writing reports.
Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (NBSCETT) or Registered as a Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists with a Canadian regulatory body.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability .

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following assets:

Experience in preparing for and/or participation in civil litigation proceedings.
Experience preparing for Small Claims Court, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, claims processes, or experience communicating investigation results with the public.
Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:

Engineering and Field Level V: $1,935.00 to $2,434.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.

Engineering and Field Level IV: $1,763.00 to $2,211.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.

Engineering and Field Level III: $1,622.00 to $2,036.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.
