We enable the smooth functioning of the department. We provide day-to-day services such as payroll, leave and timesheets, work health and safety, and performance support, while building a workforce for the future through workforce planning and analysis, engagement and retention, and support for our diverse workforce and Senior Executive Service (SES) leadership.


The Engagement and Talent Section supports the department's recruitment activities by providing strategic advice on attraction and retention methods and coordinating all external and internal recruitment activities. The team works to make sure the department's Employee Value Proposition (EVP) resonates with current employees and appeals to prospective employees.


The role will see you working across the branch and wider business areas to contribute to the department’s objective to attract, retain and develop the right people for the right jobs at the right time.


What will you do?


The recruitment team has high peaks of work with most queries coming through via email and phone between 8.30am to 5pm. Each day is different and as the role has competing priorities you will need to be able to adjust quickly and think on your feet. If this sounds like your type of role, please apply!


Meeting the APS4 work level standards, (Work level standards: APS Level and Executive Level classifications | Australian Public Service Commission (apsc.gov.au), key responsibilities will include:

providing accurate customer focused less complex recruitment advice, both verbally and in writing
accurately preparing EOIs and letters of offers
correspond with hiring managers and incoming staff, and follow-up on paperwork to ensure deadlines are met
liaise with Payroll to ensure that all requirements are met for a new employee to be processed in the system
contributing to recruitment strategies, policies and continuous improvement of processes, systems and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and APS policy and practices
APSJobs merit list updates, internal and external requests to access merit pools
ensure records are stored per the adherence to the Department’s Records Management System (RM Workspace)
other duties as directed

Who are we looking for?


The successful candidate for this position will be able to demonstrate their capability against the APS 4 Work level standards.

Prior experience in an administration, recruitment and/or processing role would be advantageous

Eligibility requirements

Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your application.
Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.
Police check: The successful candidate must satisfactory complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check
Integrity and Performance check: The successful candidate must satisfy the requirements in an Integrity and Performance check which is completed by your most recent employer.
Timeline and assessment

A selection panel will be established to assess your suitability against the advertised role.


If a merit pool is established it will be valid for 18 months from date it first appeared in the APS Gazette.
