Assistant Building Surveyor
Up to $8+,605.05 p.a. total salary package ($75,333.50 - $ 80,363.28 + 11.5% super)
Permanent full time
dependent on skills and experience

We have an exceptional opportunity for you to join the City of Melville as an Assistant Building Surveyor where you will have the unique opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field. This can be done while pursuing your building surveyor qualification which the City will be able to provide study assistance for in accordance with our Learning & Development procedure.
You'll be an integral part of our team, assisting in assessing and processing a variety of building applications; from routine assessments to more complex projects, you'll ensure compliance with the Building Act, Building Code of Australia, Council Policies and all other relevant regulations.
Your responsibilities will include, but won’t be limited to;
Under supervision, interpret and administer the statutory responsibilities on matters related to statutory building legislation, including undertaking assessments of simple applications.
Providing excellent customer service to our community on general building enquiries in accordance with the City’s established policies and practices including the review of Building Applications for completion.
Maintaining accurate building records and information systems.
Collaborating with the team to ensure consistent adherence to policies and practices, all while providing exceptional customer service.
Essential Requirements:
Certificate III in Business Administration or similar or equivalent relevant experience.
Commitment to enrol in and the ability to progress to a recognised course leading to a Diploma in Building Surveying or a Bachelor of Building Surveying upon being offered the role (Study Assistance available subject to conditions).
Commitment to obtain a Construction Induction Card (White card) upon being offered the role.
High level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including report writing.
Excellent customer service skills.
Sound negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Well-developed decision making and problem-solving skills.
Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
Desirable Requirements:
Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
Demonstrated knowledge of the application of the Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012, Building Code of Australia, building practices and statutory requirements.
