The City of Abbotsford’s Planning & Development Services Department is looking for a self-motivated individual to join their dynamic team as an Assistant Planner. The Assistant Planner, comparable to Planner I in other municipalities, will be responsible for reviewing and managing development applications, assisting other development planning staff and City departments as necessary, responding to general development related inquiries, and assisting with research, analysis and preparing reports on a wide range of planning matters.
As the successful candidate you will bring, to this position, considerable knowledge of zoning regulations, planning best practices, and applicable government legislation. Your exceptional relationship building and communication skills will be beneficial as you liaise with stakeholders, and provide information to citizens, the development community, and other customers on matters relating to the City’s bylaws, Official Community Plan, and a wide range of planning and development related matters. Your attention to detail, analytical and problem solving skills, along with your desire to make a difference will make you an asset to the team.
In order to be considered for this position you must have:
Post-secondary degree in Geography or Community and Regional Planning or related discipline.
Two years of experience in municipal or regional planning managing projects and applications or reports
Membership, or ability to obtain membership, in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
This position is unionized, C.U.P.E Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $42.71 to $50.22.
