The Role

Reporting to the Senior Risk Officer, this position partners with business units within the City of Ballarat to identify, manage and report on risk and facilitate the completion of internal audits and recommendations. The role is responsible for contributing to and coordinating the timely preparation and distribution of high-quality reports to City of Ballarat’s Audit and Risk Committee, while ensuring that the Committee is meeting its legislative obligations. Working in a dynamic and varied environment with a collaborative and fun team, as we deliver a high-quality audit and assurance function to the City of Ballarat.

About You

We are looking for an organised and collaborative individual with well-developed expertise in risk management, audit management and/or assurance. You are well-known for your ability to communicate and partner with stakeholders to gain cooperation and achieve outcomes. You have a well-developed ability to analyse and critically consider information to provide advice, recommendations and options to stakeholders. You are comfortable managing competing priorities with a positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement and managing risk.

Qualifications and Experience

Degree or diploma course in risk management/audit/assurance/compliance or related field with relevant experience, preferably in the local government sector.

Key selection criteria

Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote the corporate values.
Well-developed expertise and proficiency in risk management, audit management and/or
assurance, including the application of theories and principles in practical circumstances preferably
within the areas of Local Government or private enterprise (risk or audit management).
Highly developed ability to work as part of a collaborative team and contribute to the team
environment.
Well-developed ability to conduct investigative research, legislative and policy interpretation,
including the ability to analyse and critically consider findings to provide advice, recommendations
and options to relevant stakeholders.
High level customer service skills and excellent communication skills including the capacity to deal
with people face-to-face, over the phone and via other mechanisms of communication as required.
Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work
area.
