Job description
The post holder will be accountable for leading on all aspects of quality management related to nursing practice within the multi-speciality, predominately nurse-led ambulatory day care service.

They will provide a visible presence with strong professional, clinical, and managerial leadership to develop nursing at a strategic and operational level within the service, ensuring that nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. The post holder will provide specialist knowledge, support, and advice on ambulatory day care to patients, carers, and across the service as a whole.

Working closely with the Senior Matron, Clinical Leads, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Operational and Service Managers and wider team, the post holder will help drive and shape the service as it evolves to meet the demands of commissioners and the local community, whilst supporting continued development of advanced nursing practice within the service. The post holder will contribute to the on-going implementation of the trust strategy and also the nursing and midwifery strategy, in close liaison with Senior Matron and the Head of Nursing.

The post holder will also undertake the key functions of the lead nurse role ensuring the attainment and monitoring of quality and clinical performance indicators and ensuring that any aspect of Directorate service delivery is underpinned by the patient and service user experience. The post holder will play an important role in the development of services as we look to expand into new services to support the growth in ambulatory care demand.

The post holder will support the implementation and maintenance of effective governance arrangements whilst ensuring that nursing care is of the highest possible standard at all times with particular emphasis on dignity, respect and compassion.

This vacancy has been advertised in accordance with the new NHS pay rate which will take effect from autumn 2024. 1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Always maintain professional behaviour and promote a positive image of The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with World Class Care value.
• Provide specialist ambulatory patient care at any point of their care pathway.
• Be a leader of the PITU operational meeting and attend other

relevant meetings with active participation.
• Take the lead in ensuring that patients consistently receive appropriate and skilled nursing care.
• In collaboration with the specialist teams, lead on assessing appropriateness, development and implementation of new care pathways for ambulatory day care.
• Act as a resource to patients and professionals on ambulatory day care.
• Ensure effective communication is maintained both written and verbally, regarding patients, through close liaison with professional colleagues, both in primary and secondary care, and to develop working relationships with specialist clinicians and nurse specialists, and relevant support services.
• Maintain pathways in collaboration with other members of the specialist teams.
• Takes active role in auditing clinical practice within service.
• Adhere to the NMC Codes and Scope of Professional Practice and to the policies and procedures laid down by the Trust.
• Take responsibility for ensuring self and staff follow laid down infection control procedures, moving and handling, health and safety and risk management.
• Acts as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership for relevant clinical areas and demonstration of competent and accountable clinical practice.
• Demonstrates knowledge of contemporary clinical practice, explores new ideas and introduces positive, evidence-based change in line with local and national initiatives and guidance.
• Actively supports the senior nursing leadership in the delivery of key performance indicators.
• Acts as an expert resource relevant to the service specialities in response to incidents, complaints and claims, reviewing trends and initiating practice review.
• Works in collaboration with stake holders in formulating and initiating strategies and systems to identify and manage risk.
• Actively promotes legislation and responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act. Is aware of and follows, policies and procedures with regard to patients, themselves, other members of staff, equipment and the general public. .

Acts as an expert advisor to trust committee’s e.g. Clinical Practice Committee, Health & Safety and Clinical Risk Management when required.
