PPS is the North American authorized service center for Shin Nippon Machinery (SNM), a Japanese manufacturer of API 610 centrifugal pumps and API 611/612 mechanical drive steam turbines with output capabilities up to 50MW.
We are hiring a Business Development Manager to build SNM’s turbine business across North America. This is a ground-floor opportunity to establish a new market channel in a segment where demand significantly exceeds available supply.
Why This Role Exists
The North American mechanical drive steam turbine market has a structural supply problem. EPC firms and rotating equipment OEMs consistently face extended lead times and slow responsiveness from incumbent turbine suppliers. SNM offers a compelling alternative: shorter delivery, Japanese engineering quality, and the ability to package pumps and turbines together — reducing procurement complexity for EPCs and end users.
Your job is to turn that market gap into revenue.
What You Will Do
• Develop two sales channels for SNM turbines in North America:
• OEM Channel: Sell API 611/612 turbines to pump, compressor, and blower/fan manufacturers (Flowserve, Sulzer, ITT Goulds, Sundyne, KSB, MHI Compressor, Atlas Copco, Howden, and others) who need turbine drives paired with their equipment
• EPC Channel: Sell pump + turbine + lube oil system (P+T+LOS) packages directly to engineering contractors (Technip Energies, Bechtel, Fluor, KBR, McDermott, and others)
• Achieve Approved Vendor List (AVL) registration with target OEMs and EPCs
• Conduct technical presentations and Lunch & Learn sessions for rotating equipment engineers
• Develop joint proposals with OEMs combining their equipment with SNM turbines
• Build and manage a sales pipeline, reporting directly to SNM headquarters in Japan
• Represent SNM at industry conferences and trade events (Turbomachinery Symposium, AFPM, etc.)
• Report directly to Shin Nippon Machinery in Tokyo for sales activities and strategy planning.
What We Are Looking For
• 7+ years of business development or technical sales experience in rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, or packaged systems)
• Established relationships with EPCs and/or OEMs in the petrochemical, refining, LNG, or power sectors — Houston network strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of API standards (API 611, 612, 610, 617) and rotating equipment specifications
• Experience navigating AVL/vendor qualification processes at major EPCs or end users
• Self-starter comfortable building a business from the ground up with minimal hand-holding
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to engage project engineers and procurement teams
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 30%
• Japanese language skills are a plus but not required
Compensation
• Base salary: $140,000 – $160,000 (commensurate with experience)
• Performance bonus tied to pipeline development (Year 1) and bookings (Year 2+)
