Salary: $104,611 to $116,755 per annum (based on 70 hours per fortnight), plus superannuation and a 9 day fortnight
Appointed salary in this range will be based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
We have a unique opportunity for an experienced community engagement specialist to join our energetic and agile Communications and Engagement Team to ensure Hornsby Shire Council undertakes effective community engagement, empowering the community to be actively involved in Council decision making.
About us
Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces.
About the role
This position will:
Have strategic oversight of community engagement planning, implementation and evaluation through providing advice and support across the organisation.
Support engagement activities through Council’s core channels and explore new ways of connecting with our community, especially our hard-to-reach groups.
Deliver the actions in Council’s approved Communications & Engagement Strategies and the key initiatives and actions in the Delivery Program / Operational Plan.
Manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistency in the representation of Council's brand, the delivery of engagement activities and the opportunities for public participation.

About you
We are seeking a person who has significant experience in successfully managing community and stakeholder engagement programs for government or large corporate organisations. The demonstrated ability to engage and communicate with diverse groups of people across diverse channels - traditional and non-traditional - tailoring your approach to suit specific groups/topics is essential.
You are a proactive and effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to establish productive working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, consultants and service providers.
You will have a strong understanding of a range of engagement methodologies for consultation and communication, as well as with excellent research capabilities and the ability to interpret and analyse a wide breadth of information and issues.
You will have relevant degree qualifications or have equivalent professional experience in communications, social sciences and/or community engagement, as well as IAP2 Certificate in Engagement.
