About Agape Table

Agape Table is a registered non-profit operating in the core of downtown Winnipeg. Originating in 1980, Agape Table is the longest running food assistance program in the city. The word “Agape” means unconditional love, and our team of staff, volunteers, and guests embrace a non-judgmental, unbiased, and respectful attitude toward all who seek assistance. In 2025, we served 188,500 meals.

Agape Table provides food and support to Winnipeg’s most vulnerable and marginalized people. Our guests include seniors, students, single parents, low-income families, people who are unemployed or underemployed, people experiencing homelessness, newcomers to Canada, people with disabilities, and others who are struggling to feed themselves and their families. Everyone is always welcome at Agape Table, and no one is ever turned away.

Job Overview
We are seeking three compassionate and dedicated Community Support Workers to join our team for the summer! This role involves providing dignified and respectful food assistance services to our guests in downtown Winnipeg. The ideal candidates will be empathetic, responsible, and able to handle sensitive situations. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills working with diverse populations, supporting the community, and experience with a non-profit.

This is a 12 week position 35 hours per week funded by Canada Summer Jobs grant. See bottom of this posting for more requirements and details.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Food Services

Assist the team in planning and preparing daily meals.
Supervise and direct volunteers in both the kitchen and food delivery areas.
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and food distribution areas, ensuring compliance with health regulations.
Ensure proper storage and tracking of food and supplies.
Volunteer Management

Lead by example in professional conduct with other staff, volunteers, and guests.
Support and guide volunteers.
Address and report any issues to the General Manager.
Potential to use digital tools and communication such as accessing online volunteer calendar and forms or conducting research, analysis and finding supports for guests.
Program Support

Be alert to activity in the dining area and assist managers with any behavior or medical crises.
Assist guests by referring them to appropriate social services when necessary.
Ensure dinning room is clean and properly set up.
Assist with food bank as directed.
Help distribute donations of hygiene or clothing to guests.
Help organize and deliver programming and potentially workshops, or other community support services.
Additional Duties

Assess guest needs and provide support.
Other tasks as assigned, including preparing reports, conducting research or surveys, digital communication with other staff or volunteers, and assisting guests.
This job is flexible to whatever background or experience you have or are looking to grow while working in a non-profit and helping the community during this 12 week position.
Education and Requirements

No education required.
Interest or experience in community service, food services, and working with diverse populations.
Ability to work well with others and demonstrate leadership when needed.

The government of Canada has funded this job through the Canada Summer Job program.
