Kittelson & Associates is a leading transportation engineering and planning consulting firm that helps improve how people move around. We are seeking an experienced Contract Specialist or Paralegal with Architecture & Engineering (A&E) or construction contract experience to provide temporary, on-call support during a staff leave.
This role plays an important part in maintaining continuity in contract review and risk management during a key transition period. While this is an hourly, on-call position, the workload is expected to be consistent and near full-time throughout the engagement.
The position will begin immediately to allow for a 4–6 week onboarding and training period prior to the primary staff member’s leave beginning mid-April. This role reports to the firm’s Risk Manager.
Position Summary
In this role, you will support Kittelson’s work by reviewing and advising on a wide range of professional services contracts and solicitation documents. You will apply established risk management standards, exercise sound professional judgment, and communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners to support informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will:
Review and analyze a variety of contract documents, including NDAs, teaming agreements, solicitations (RFP/RFQ/RFI), client agreements, subconsultant agreements, and requested revisions to internal contract templates.
Apply Kittelson’s risk management standards and contract review metrics, adjusting review and negotiation strategies based on client requirements and applicable statutory law.
Analyze solicitation documents to identify contractual requirements, restrictions, and opportunities for clarification or modification, including use of formal question periods.
Support administrative staff with solicitation form assessments and completion.
Research and interpret statutory requirements related to indemnification, defense, and liability obligations for design professionals.
Redline contracts and draft clear, concise justifications for requested revisions.
Apply knowledge of insurance coverages to contract review and risk analysis.
Communicate clearly and professionally with internal stakeholders and external partners, including clients, prime consultants, and subconsultants.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
At least one year of contract review experience in the architecture and engineering or construction industry.
Strong ability to interpret legal and contractual requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to established processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience reviewing public agency solicitations and professional services agreements.
Familiarity with professional liability insurance concepts applicable to design professionals.
