Job Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing, planning and coordinating the daily financial operations of the company. The Controller manages all aspects of the company finances to insure GAAP and tax compliance. The Controller establishes strong internal controls, accounting best practices, safeguards the company’s assets and mitigates risk. The Controller supports company Executive Management by assisting in setting annual financial goals and objectives and regularly monitoring the achievement of those goals throughout the year. The Controller’s role is critical in ensuring the company’s financial health and optimizing the financial resources of the company.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Operations & Compliance
Oversee the preparation and accuracy of monthly financial statements, ensuring timely reporting to the board of directors and financial partners.
Manage the corporate accounting function, ensuring integrity and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
Develop and maintain robust internal controls, ensuring appropriate segregation of duties and risk mitigation measures.
Preparation of annual financial forecasts and budget.
Oversee tax strategy, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while optimizing tax efficiency.
Lead the annual financial audit process, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and adherence to accounting standards.
Risk Management & Cost Optimization
Drive cost control strategies to maximize operational efficiency and profitability.
Negotiate and manage corporate insurance programs, including property, casualty, and group health insurance.
Oversee financial risk management strategies, ensuring financial stability and business continuity.
Manage banking relationships, negotiate loan agreements, and oversee treasury management functions.
Supervise the credit function, working with the credit manager to evaluate and manage customer credit risk.
Operational Oversight & Leadership
Lead and develop the finance, accounting, credit, and administrative teams, ensuring high performance and accountability.
Collaborating with HR to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
Oversee accounts payable and supplier payment processes, ensuring accuracy and financial discipline.
Manage the IT function, overseeing third-party providers and ensuring technology aligns with business objectives.
Oversee asset management, including leases for vehicles, equipment, and real estate.
Develop and administer incentive programs, sales commissions, and year-end bonus structures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting expertise.
Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and financial analysis.
Strategic mindset with the ability to align financial operations with business goals.
Excellent negotiation and cost-management skills.
Deep understanding of data analysis, financial metrics, and performance indicators.
Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
Demonstrates high ethical standards and personal integrity; consistently exercises sound judgement and discretion in handling sensitive financial information and business decisions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversees Accounts Payable (AP) Manager / Credit Manager (AR), Corporate Administrative Manager, Accounting Department.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
CPA or CMA certification preferred.
7-10 years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles. 3+ years of experience in a Controller position.
Expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, cost control, banking, and compliance.
Solid understanding of GAAP, regulatory requirements, and financial best practices.
Strong analytical skills, business acumen, and ability to drive financial decisions.
